Boulder King

We were driving along a particularly boring section of Nevada last summer when suddenly there was an area with these amazing rock formations. Of course we had to pull over to rest and explore a little, and Ken naturally wanted to climb up to the top of a nearby section. I humored him and captured the moment with my camera. Here is that scene in pastel glory. :)

You Missed a Step

Another painting inspired by my neighborhood walk last week. I thought it was interesting that there's a pot on every step but one...but I also liked the lines and shapes and thought they would make a good subject.

Reflected Glory

Went for a walk in the late afternoon yesterday and brought along my camera. I knew I would try to paint this little scene as soon as I saw it.

Seeing Red

Decided late in the day that I wanted to get my hands into pastel dust, so I quickly grabbed a few items for a still life and enthusiastically applied color without much thought. I enjoyed the process, but I think I should have added more orange to the tomato. And yes, I do have a little flower vase that is just that shape. :)

Prairie Storm

On a pioneer handcart experience with 350 youth last week we experienced a hailstorm miracle. The story is written on my home blog page. In that story I used a storm photo from another website. Today I used my pastels to create my own impressionistic version of the approaching storm.
