Old Oregon City High School in Spring

Oregon City is in the pink this week! All around town the ornamental "pink trees" are blooming profusely and happily in the sun. (I'm not sure if they are plum or cherry, or both?) This is such a soft, delicate time which is easily shortened by Spring rains. Today, however, we are having sunshine and it is part of the forcast for the rest of the week! I happen to have some Old OC High School reference photos (that I took a few days ago), and was glad to work on this painting today.

Clackamette Fishermen

Phew! This one was tedious. I really liked the scene, though, with the late afternoon warm sunshine and those long cool shadows. It was hard to resist. I think it's done, but I'll let it "rest" a couple days and then decide. If something bothers me about it, I'll go back in and do a fix.

Chicken Delight

This afternoon we met at Sharon's house for our bi-monthly art workshop. She set up a few different still lifes and we all got to work. So much fun to mingle with other artists and play with our colors! I love it! Here's what I came home with. My first thought was that I might do a little more to it, but now that I look at it again I've decided to leave it alone. It's fresh and lively. Delightful!

Promenade to Old Glory

Scenes from Oregon City are still calling me. Here's a look at the Promenade, from a photo I took last month, during the afternoon.

Willamette Sunset

Today's image comes from a photo taken a few years ago. Ken and I were on the West Linn side of the river, walking along the beach, looking north. The Clackamas river is coming in from the far right. The sunset colors on the water and in the sky caught my attention and I knew this would be a painting someday.

Stair Lights

Here's another trip down memory lane in Oregon City. How many times have you walked up or down these stone steps near the elevator? Many people use them as part of a daily workout (up and down, up and down!) The reference for today's painting was taken last spring when the new leaves were coming out on the trees. I am calling it "Stair Lights" for the sunlight in the trees as well as the lamp posts along the way.

I also did a little re-working into "Good Morning, Oregon City". The sky on the previous post was a little too sketchy to my view, so I added a little more color. I like it better this way.
